Did I get ripped off?

Ok, I took my 98 DOdge neon for a winter check(102,000km's). My horn failed on me too, so I knew I needed a new one. ANyway, in the end, my brake shoes were seperated, my coolant liquid was changing colour and there was rust on my drums, plus I had to get a brand new horn as opposed to a new one. So, parts and labour for horn, brake shoes, coolant flush, drum rotation and winter check up it came to $702

Can you tell me what you think about how much I paid?

Thank youDid I get ripped off?yea i think you did get ripped off because you could have did all of that your self and it would have been a lot cheaper. Horn cost about $15.00, Brake Shoes cost $15.00, New coolnat cost about $10.00, Drum rotation cost nothing if you do it yourself and a winter check up like at dodge cost about prolly $50.00 So you could have got by for only $90.00 Dodge is a big ripoff!
Did I get ripped off?
where did you go?
Did I get ripped off?
If your coolant has never been changed, you needed that.. I hope you got a new thermostat to go with it while they had it drained. You must have miss understood what they did to your brakes.. They do not rotate drums.. They %26quot;Turn%26quot; drums and in the case of your front disc brakes they %26quot;Turn%26quot; the rotors.. That is a term used when they resurface them to true them up at the time you put on new pads or shoes. All discs and drums can have some surface rust in the area where the pads do not touch, that is normal.
probably so
yes you slightly overpaid a little in the sum of about 300 bucks or more, all of what they done shouldn't have come to no where near that much, its too late now but i hope you don't ever go back the that shop again, that was slightly over pricing that job a little, all shops have different labor rates but that one must have been pretty high, just remember this as a lesson i guess, good luck ,and merry x-mas.
You could have done it all your self and saved close to 600 dollars.

New Shoes: 20 to 60 dollars

New drums: 20 to 40 dollars (each)

Resurface drums (off the car): 10 dollars each

New coolant: 12 dollars

New horn:10 to 30 dollars

Being able to do it all your self? Priceless!

Any shop is going to make money on the parts they sell you and to put the parts on. At least when you get the work done in a shop, you have a warranty and you get to keep your hands clean
Do it yourself. Most everything you had done can be done yourself. And you would know it was done. I know sometimes , some shops will charge for something but not actually do the service .
I'd say that the seller had you bamboozled--the car is in BAD shape, if your description is accurate. The coolant changing color, to me, is a sign of GRAVE internal engine damage, as in oil getting into the coolant, most likely a blown head gasket. The $702 mentioned is barely the tip of the iceberg--you may be looking at a replacement powertrain. The separated brakeshoes and rusty drums lead me to suspect that this Neon was in the drink.
you got riped off done it your self for 100 easy easy work
